Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer for the Gaston Hume Society. The Gaston Humane Society need caring, dependable, and responsible individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of animals in our community. The Gaston Humane Society offers a variety of volunteer opportunities. Please complete the attached volunteer application. This information lets us know your interests and what type of volunteer work best fits your schedule. We look forward to hearing from you and are pleased to have you working with our Society.

How Can You Volunteer?

Educational Programs: The "Sharing Sam" program for kindergarten and first grade students enables us to reach hundreds of children the importance of pet care and responsibility, safety around animals, and to have respect for all life. This program is offered to all schools at no charge. Each child is given a GHS coloring book which re-emphasizes pet responsibility. Volunteers are needed to man booths at local festivals and community events (passing of literature, answering questions, etc.)

Foster Homes: Volunteers are needed to provide temporary care for animals in the society's adoption program until they are placed in a permanent home. The length of time to place each animal varies so fostering does require a firm commitment. All potential foster homes are screened.

General Maintenance: Maintenance of the grounds, trimming bushes, weed control, etc. General cleaning of office building - floors and windows.

Newsletter "PetPourri": Newsletter is published by the Society to keep our supporters informed of the Society's activities and current animal issues. Need volunteers to submit articles and help with distribution.

Paws Awhile Attic Boutique (Thrift Shop): Volunteers to help during store hours, assist in selling, help sort / clean incoming merchandise. Help with yard sales. All proceeds benefit the Society's spay/neuter program.

Pet Therapy: This program allows volunteers to take their well behaved pets to area nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and adult care facilities to be enjoyed by the residents.

Publicity: Mail announcements to radio and TV stations, newspapers and other media. Distribution of newsletters, posters to vet offices, libraries, and businesses.
